As I am sure you are well aware, the Heartbleed bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library. OpenSSL is a widely used encryption technology that provides security for millions of websites. This newly discovered bug has the capacity to intercept personal information captured on an estimated two-thirds of website servers.
I am pleased to let you know that we have been in communication with our service providers and can confirm that our borrower and client-facing systems are not vulnerable to the Heartbleed threat.
Rest assured, Student Choice will continue to closely monitor the situation.
While this issue has had no impact on the systems we access, it is a very good reminder that the internet can be a risky environment. The easiest way to provide some level of protection is to periodically change passwords, and the more frequent the changes the better.
